Five easy ways to keep buff over the festive season

Christmas and New Year for a lot of us is like a hall pass to eat and drink in excess, and worry about the consequences later. Here are five ways to keep that Christmas cheer going, but in true Ask That Fit Girl style.

Normally, at this time of the year I’d be full of advice on ways you could prioritise a workout, or tips on how to make your Christmas and New Year plans active.

But let’s face it. For some of us, this just isn’t going to happen. After working hard for 50 weeks of the year, the MO is to completely kick back. I hear – and feel you!

So this blog post is about keeping it real, and offering up some ways you could sneak activity in if you’re letting exercise go completely over the holidays.

Here are five ways you could work in a little fitness to keep buff (ish).

  1. Ditch the trolley: head to the shops (child-free, and parking as far as possible from the entry) and do your grocery shopping using the green baskets. Your biceps will burn. Thank yourself with wine later.
  2. Squat it like it’s hot: every time you open the fridge door, drop down and do five sumo squats. And yes, that’s any fridge door. Work fridge and bottle shop included.
  3. Salute your vino: When you do reach for that glass of wine, hold mountain pose for a minute saying a silent thank you to all the winemakers out there. Experienced yogis, take a modification.
  4. Plank-it-up: Hold a 30 second plank before consuming chocolate. Bonus points (i.e. hold for 60 seconds) if it’s in alcohol form. Yeah Vodka mudslides, we’re talking about you!
  5. Tricep dip away: for any snack consumed in front of the TV, push out 12 tricep dips first using the coffee table as your bench. *One set per snack type.
